About Me

I have been a qualified massage therapist since 2001. I am qualified in various types of massage and have a Masters Diploma (UK) in clinical sports therapy, anatomy & physiology.

I worked in the UK entertainment industry for a number of years, massaging back stage mainly with recording artists and theatre companies.

I have had my own practice for many years now and am one of very few therapists in New Zealand qualified to massage oncology patients.

I am a Registered Therapist with Massage New Zealand and I am a member of the Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM) in America.

Types of massage available:
Relaxation Massage

Just what it says! Unwind at the end of a hard day or week.

Deep Tissue

This helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. It is generally used with other massage techniques. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep tissue massage otherwise tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature.

Sports Massage

Designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. There are 3 contexts in which sports massage can be useful to an athlete: pre-event, post event and injury recovery. Pre-event massage is fast paced and stimulating, it helps to establish blood flow and warm up muscles for the task ahead. Post event massage, the intent here is to calm the nervous system and begin the process of flushing toxins and waste products out of the body. When an athlete sustains an injury, skilful massage therapy can often speed and improve the quality of healing.

Hot stone massage

The most delightful of massages. Slow wavelike movements induced deep relaxation to promote sleep. The sensation reduces muscular and nervous tension. Hot stone massage is suited to people who tend to feel chilly or have cold feet! It is also suited to people who have back pain, poor circulation, osteoarthritis, insomnia, anxiety, tension, stress and depression.

Myofascial Release Therapy

Effective hands on therapy which can change and improve health of the fascia.  MRT can break down scar tissue, relax muscles, give relief to myofascia and restore good posture.  MRT is applied directly to the body and uses slow and sometimes deep pressure to restore the proper health of the fascia

Dry needling

This is the use of solid needles for the release of muscle pain. Dry needling targets trigger points, which is the direct and palpable source of pain. A needle is inserted in to the source of pain to aid healing. This technique can be used along with other massage techniques during a session or solely on its own.

Oncology massage

This is tailored to the needs of individuals with cancer. This specialised practice requires therapists to be fully educated in and pay close attention to the physical, emotional and psychological needs of the clients in all stages of cancer: diagnosis, treatment, recovery, survivor or terminal. Training in oncology massage covers appropriate bodywork modalities for cancer clients, includes precautions for radiation, chemotherapy and surgery and covers physiology and pathology.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

This is a type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of lymph from the tissues in the body.  MLD can be used for preventative care such as: reduction of lymphoedema, improved
immune system health, detoxification, relaxation and energising effects.  MLD is a gentle, non-invasive
manual technique that has a powerful effect on the body.   It can be used for the following: primary
lymphoedema, post-mastectomy oedema, post-surgical swelling, sprains/strains, muscle tears, rheumatoid
arthritis, whiplash, tension headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, sports injuries and some digestive complaints
to name but a few.

Pregnancy massage

Available to women once they are past the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.

Partners massage course

I also teach couples how to massage each other. This training takes one evening a week for 4 weeks in all.

I am also an Ortho Bionomy® Practitioner in Training – Student Member of Ortho Bionomy® New Zealand Inc.

Ortho Bionomy® is a gentle, non-evasive form of body therapy which is highly effective in working with chronic stress, injuries and pains or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances.
